A USB(A) power supply of >1A or a computer with USB(A) port is required to operate the unit.
This version of the Race Timer and Speedometer gives higher accuracy and comes with a Serial Datalink and can act as a standalone unit AND is capable of delivering detailed, high precision data to a computer via USB serial datalink. (A compatible computer running a USB serial data terminal at 57600 baud is required and not supplied. Instructions are provided for using a Windows 10 computer and free program PuTTY (separate download required - not supported by Cook’s Projects)).
This version of the Race Timer and Speedometer has all the features of the STANDARD version but with higher accuracy and the addition of the ability to output more comprehensive and detailed data to a computer. NOTE: This product has the exact functions of the standard version when not connected to a computer.
The ADVANCED version is able to deliver times within 0.0004 seconds and speeds within 1% (up to real speeds of 88km/h)! Accuracy improves at lower speeds and, for example, will accurately detect a car’s speed within 0.07Km/h at speeds less than 25Km/h.
The DATALINK allows the data of races to be preserved and processed by other programs (e.g. Excel, Word etc). The output data is of a higher precision than that provided on the onboard LCD screen as well as providing race number, timings for both cars (in seconds and milliseconds) and adding recorded car speeds in Meters per Second (m/s), Kilometres per Hour (Km/h) and Miles per Hour (mph). The scale speed of 1:64 scale cars is also provided in Km/h and mph.
Using the Speedometer function, the LANE and the SPEED is output as well as the time taken in microseconds to travel the measured distance. This data transmission causes a small delay immediately after a car has passed the rear sensor whilst the data is sent via the datalink. This may affect the accuracy of the readings of the other lane if a car is in the unit within approximately 4.1 milliseconds (0.004s) of the first car. An ‘#’next to a speed will indicate this may have occurred. If speed accuracy is required, we recommend separating cars by at least 1/5th of a second. A record of all car speeds is provided to the computer.
Using the Race Timer function the data is output at the end of the race. The transmission of this data does not affect the accuracy of the Race Timer results.
NOTE: A computer with a USB A connector and suitable software is required to read the data output by the Race Timer. This software is not provided by Cook’s Projects but instructions are provided for Win10. (We are unable to provide direct support for other OS but suitable Apps which are capable of reading serial data over USB are probably available).
